Why Officiating?
Love basketball? Becoming a basketball official keeps you in the game and lets you be part of the action. It’s more than just a job—it’s about passion, camaraderie, and making a positive impact on young athletes. Whether it’s the thrill of the court, extra income, or the satisfaction of a job well done, officiating has something for everyone.
Get Paid to Referee:
As an official, you can earn between $40-$80 per game, depending on the level. Plus, most assignments include two games per night, and you’ll also receive a travel fee based on distance, adding an extra $20-$50 per assignment!
Training Made Easy:
No experience? No problem! We offer comprehensive training to help you start strong. You’ll get the tools and support you need, from rulebooks to in-person and virtual training sessions. Plus, our annual camp offers hands-on experience with expert feedback.
Simple Requirements:

Pass a background check

Complete TASO’s rules and mechanics exams

Attend a clinic or complete online modules

Register on TASO.org ($60 fee)

Pay Local Chapter Fees ($90 total)

Get Your Uniform (A state approved UNIFORM is required. The TASO approved black and white shirt must be worn. It is purchased from a TASO certified vendor at a cost of $30 or more. The black pants, black socks, black shoes, black lanyard and whistle may be purchased locally. The uniform will be worn at all chapter assignments, JHS thru varsity.)
